  when the iron curtain fell in the 90's, my parents went to russia with a group of other jws.

  since then, they've taught themselves russian and now go over about every 3rd year.

  they also work the russian territory here once a month and spend about 10 hours traveling around in a 100 mile radius.

  Blasty--I tolerate their JW bullcrap for a lot of reasons. I don't want to, but at this point, I have no choice.

  Anyway, I'm sitting here at work, and my phone rings. It is my mother calling from New York. She asked me how things were going, etc.

  THEN she asked me if I went to the meeting Sunday, and how was it.

  I CAN'T FREAKIN' BELIEVE IT! SHE CALLS FROM NEW YORK JUST TO SEE IF I WENT TO A FREAKIN' MEETING?!?!?!?

  Naturally she got all upset and pissed when I said I didn't.

  What was your first taste of "apostasy"? Mine was Bonham, Texas

  besides the folks walking with signs at each convention, what was your first taste of "apostasy"?

  my first interesting experience happened within the kingdom hall.

  my congregation in dallas (farmers branch) was in the same district as the bonham congregation which was about 70 miles northeast of dallas.. http://governingbodyletters.blogspot.com/2008/04/who-owns-kingdom-halls.html.

  After 1975. I think it was at a DC in 76 or 77. I would have been 6 or 7 years of age. Apostates were picketing. My mother was just about shitting herself. She had my hand in a death grip and ordered me not to look at them on our way in. She was so focused on the apostates with signs, that she didn't notice one who didn't have a sign and was walking around trying to just talk to the JWs.

  She looked like a kindly lady and smiled at me. I smiled back. When my mother noticed the apostate and I smiling at each other, she freaked out and grabbed me by my ponytail and yanked my head so that it faced forward.

  I had no idea what an apostate was or what was going on at that point. I just remember almost despising my mother and thinking about the smiling lady and what could have possibly been so horrible about her.

  Now I know.

  I drove them to the airport Saturday morning because they're going to the Russian District Convention in New York.

  They'll probably tour Bethel. Again. For the 4th time.

  Natually they'll come back all pumped up and zealous.

  Until then, I'm intensely enjoying not having my phone ring daily on non-meeting nights, and multiple times on meeting nights whining and nagging about going to the meeting.

  The whole thing is quite sad.

  ....waking up to the real truth about the truth?......when it first really hit me like a shovel in the face.....i actually said to the co i would have to leave my wife and son (not hers)) and he is now 20 (not the co..my son), and i said it because i knew i would now never measure up to the "spiritual head" model.

  cause i knew it was all bs...but have not really ran away yet....at least not for more than a week at a time.........doing better actually.......but did you want to at least move or something?

  I just got really really angry. I actually contemplated severely vandalizing local KHs at one point. I didn't because I figured out that no matter what you do, the JWs "are always right."

  If you attack them, it means they have the truth and this is the persecution Jesus said would happen to those who follow him.

  If you don't attack them and just ignore them, it means they have the truth and you're under Satan's control, otherwise you would listen to them. They'll look at you smugly because they think you'll be bird food "very soon."

  If you speak your views, you're an apostate because they're "right and have the truth."

  You can't win.

  a four-year college degree, seen for generations as a ticket to a better life, is no longer enough to guarantee a steadily rising paycheck.. a degree ... "isn't any big guarantee of employment...".

  I read that article and had the same thought; the WTBTS will positively orgasmic over that article because using partial statements, it almost seems as though that article was written for them.

  Truth of the matter is, you need a college education to get in the door at most places of employment.

  Bets as to how long it'll take the WTBTS to write an article that "quotes" this article?

  please tell me there are some other metal fans in here besides me!

  some of you mentioned receiving flack from the elders because you listen to rap, but surely there has got to be some other rock n' roll and metal fans in here.

  i still remember the flack i got for listening to 80's music, classic rock n' roll (loved jethro tull, doors, pink floyd, and so on), and worst of all.....heavy metal!

  I'll say this, I am a 100% rabid fan of my man, Rob Zombie! I just love him. I loved White Zombie too. La Sexorsisto was a fantastic album.

  jws say they are clean and pure and undefiled and not like the world but in reality there are those that do very evil things and they either have fallen through the cracks, have gotten disciplined or disfellowshipped.. we realize that just because a person says they are a christian, it doesn't mean they will always act like one.. regarding pedophiles, do you believe that jws have a huge problem involving an infestation of pedos?

  You know, when I was growing up and on into my early 20's, I only heard "rumors" of "some spiritually weak" brothers "taking liberties" with "young" congregation members.

  It wasn't until much later that I found out about all the covered up molestations.
